My findings were similar to Jen's. You have to call the companies to find out if we can get group rates, which I didn't do yet.

Airplane

  • Flights cost about $175 per person roundtrip.
  • We would need to find transportation to the airports, probably DC or possibly Richmond.
  • Time = 1.5 hr

Bus

  • I found that a Greyhound bus ticket costs $137 per person roundtrip.
  • On the companies Jen listed I think you would have to get transportation to DC again. Do they come to the Fredericksburg station?
  • Baggage would be more limited.
  • Time = 7 hr

Train

  • Fares are about $150 per person roundtrip.
  • Time = 5 hr

I kind of like the train or bus option because it is convenient and the rates are comparable to airplanes. The Fredericksburg stations are close enough that we should all be able to get there easily and it will take us right into NYC.

Airplane

  • I found tickets on Student Universe for $120 per person from DC, roundtrip. They were more expensive from the Richmond airport, about $202-$483.
  • Student Universe also offers group rates.
  • Since we're leaving on a Friday, we could take the VRE from the Fredericksburg train station up to DC for about eight dollars.

Train

  • The Amtrak comes to the Fredericksburg train station and costs $73 per person, one way.
  • The trip would take about five hours.

Bus

  • My findings were the same as the others. I think Greyhound is the only one that comes to Fredericksburg, and tickets are $137 per person, roundtrip.
  • The trip would take about seven hours.

Everything I found is already represented by everyone else, and really I think that the train is perhaps the best option, since we don't have to find a place to put any cars we may take or have anyone's parents come pick us up since the station is right in Fredericksburg. Also, there's no security to go through. With the train, there's much less risk of having luggage lost because much of it is there with you. That's my two cents.  :)
